christine and bryan - malibu lake mountain club

christine looks so cute and happy here...i love this pic!

we attached the placecards to long strands of celery green, espresso and chocolate brown grosgrain ribbon and added some green orchid blooms for a fun twist...we then hung them from the overhang of the patio area...

brown monkey tails added whimsy to the all green floral centerpieces (parrot tulips, bells of Ireland, hydrangea, cymbidium orchids and "supergreen" roses)...

every vase was wrapped in chocolate brown dupioni silk fabric and a band of celery green grosgrain ribbon...

simple galvanized pails were packed full of green dutch hydrangea and set on top of brown rustic wood podiums. the podiums flanked the altar area during the ceremony but we moved them inside for the reception, setting them next to the cake table and sweetheart table.

the lovely images were taken by kim fox photography...and this was the first wedding i worked with kelley lee gin of picture perfect events...she is so fun to work with and i can't wait to collaborate with her again!

ceremony magazine 2009 photo shoot #2 - Balboa Bay club

sooooo, here is the 2nd table scape i designed for ceremony magazine's 2009 orange county edition...for this setup we went with a dark purple, magenta, black and white color scheme incorporating cameos, damask, feathers and crystal trim...very glam and very bold! this color scheme definitely makes a statement and this purple toned magenta is a sexier, more sophisticated alternative to hot pink...

the bouquet was made up of fuschia peonies, purple mokara orchids, curled black ti leaves, eggplant mini cala lilies and black feather trim. accenting the handle were 5 black and white rhinestone brooches and cameos of varying sizes...

the boutonniere was made up of a black ti leaf, eggplant mini cala lily, black feathers and a black rhinestone accent...
3 black candlesticks held a long arrangement made up of all purple and dark fuschia phalenopsis orchids, mokara orchids and dendrovium orchids...

i got this frame from ikea and we hot-glued dark purple dendrovium orchid blooms all over the face of it...this would look amazing hung on a ballroom wall over your placecard table...

the menu cards were wrapped in a damask velvet fabric and tied off with black satin ribbon and a matching black rhinestone brooch...

black crystal beaded trim lined the bottom of the arrangement...

ceremony magazine 2009 photo shoot - balboa bay club

last june i designed 2 tablescapes for the 2009 orange county edition of ceremony magazine...the shoot took place at balboa bay club and i had some of my favorite vendors on hand to assist with my designs...this is the first of two posts i will be doing to showcase what we came up with!

this tablescape had a rustic, chic, organic vibe...but still with the clean, pulled together "JL DESIGNS" signature! we used white peonies, white hydrangea, green protea, "blushing bride", white reflexed roses, a variety of succulents and sand-colored dried fungi caps...

for the menus and placecards, margaret over at mimio paper and i chose this rustic material, layered with celery green paper and a crisp white cardstock...i hot-glued the succulents onto the menus onsite to give them a fresh, living quality so they would fit right into the tablescape as part of the design...
***note - when the table numbers stick out like a sore thumb and ruin all the lovely centepiece/tablescape photos it makes me sad...spending all that money on florals, linens, lighting, etc and then forgetting about the table number itself is a shame...try to create something cool that makes the table number look like it belongs!

i pretty much found everything for my tablescape at ikea...the natural cork vases, the tan pillar candles, the sand colored ceramic accent vases and the petite white textured vases...

thank you to the following vendors for being such rockstars!
chargers, glassware, flatware, plates: classic party rentals
those killer seagrass chairs: designer 8
linens and napkins: bbj linens
menus and placecards: mimio, the artistry of paper
and if you want to get your own copy of ceremony magazine with tons of great tablescapes by other fabulous designers, head to barnes and noble, borders, target or even your local grocery store...

sorry to make you wait!  if you recognize this cover and have seen it in your local barnes or borders, pick up a copy!  the tablescapes this year are gorgeous and you won't be lacking inspiration for your event by the time you are done going through it!

photo shoot for bride and bloom magazine!!!

O.M.G!!! it has been 2 weeks since i last posted on this blog and i admit, i am feeling completely flaky and embarrassed...shame on me! but hey, things have been a bit busy meeting lots of killer new brides, creating lots of unique new proposals as well as pulling off 3 beautiful weddings over the course of one week in february!

now i WISH i could show you all the AMAZING photos carlie and gabriel ryan took of my 2 tablescapes for the upcoming issue of bride and bloom magazine...but since i have to wait until the pics go to press, here are some fun shots from the shoot last thursday to hold you over!

the hilarious carlie from gabriel ryan photography, the adorable melody from sweet and saucy cakes and me...this is taken right before me and carlie tore into those delicious mini cakes melody made! so yummy!

working on tablescape #2...

melody was SO fun to have onsite the whole time and i loved getting to know her better! she is a gem! and SO talented!
yes folks, the life i lead is so much more unglam than it appears to be...

okay i HAD to post this one...carlie don't kill me! at the end of the shoot, i gave carlie one of the bouquets she had been eye-balling the whole day...but being the perfectionist that she is, she wanted to snap off a couple more shots of the tablescape first...so not knowing what to do with her bouquet, she tucked it between her legs...

i admit, i have never seen this done before! there is something so funny and yet so wrong about this picture! i could not stop laughing!

a HUGE thank you to all the vendors who made that day such a blast and who i am in awe of at how they work their crafts!

gabriel ryan photography (gabriel was there too but i didn't have any pics of him!)
sweet and saucy cakes (melody i cannot wait to work together more!)
